Heal Thyself - Ignite Your Immune System
Seven Simple Ways to Ignite Your Immune System
• Manage your stress. A daily meditation or relaxation practice can go a long way toward offsetting stressors.
• Eat well. Favor fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Cut back on red meat, processed foods, and refined carbohydrates.
• Early to bed, early to rise. Hit the hay by 10:30 and rise with the sun.
• Get touched. As if you needed another reason to schedule that massage: Not only does it feel good, it also stimulates immune function.
• Exercise. Every good day starts with a good stretch. Flexibility isn’t all that matters, though: Strength building and cardiovascular exercises are key to building a healthy immune system.
• Laugh. Studies show that even one good belly laugh improves immune function for 24 hours.
• Look for love. Stay away from violent images, whenever possible. A Harvard study showed that watchingviolent scenes weakens immunity, whereas watching loving images stimulates immune function.
