The Becker Friedman Institute conference on “Constitutional Design and the Scope of Government” will study how different constitutional structures impact policy outcomes. It will focus on topics related to federalism, the separation of powers, and checks and balances ingovernmental institutions. A particular focus will be on the tradeoffbetween unified and divided authority, as well as the multitask problems created by unified authority. The conference will feature both theoretical and empirical research related to these topics.
